Description:
The Youth Innovation Component encourages youth to find accessibility barriers in their communities. They work with local organizations to improve accessibility and safety in community spaces and workplaces.

Eligibility:
Applicants must:
1. be between 15 and 30 years of age at the time of the application;
2. be legally authorized to work in Canada;
3. be either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or individual who has been granted refugee status in Canada;
4. help the following eligible organizations draft a project proposal:
a) not-for-profit organizations;
b) small businesses (99 full-time equivalent employees or less);
c) Indigenous organizations;
d) municipalities;
e) territorial governments.
Application Steps:
1. Apply to become a Youth Accessibility Leader (YAL) by completing the online form. After submission, applicants will receive an email confirming receipt of their application to become a YAL. Responses will be provided within 10 business days.
2. If found eligible, a tool kit will be sent to the applicant’s email, providing all necessary information to begin the journey. This will include a basic understanding of the EAF program and its eligibility criteria. The toolkit comprises: a) Youth Journey Journal, b) Application for funding form, and c) Applicant guide for the EAF Youth Innovation Component.
3. Applicants will then be prepared to assess their community or workplace, identifying any accessibility barriers that may limit individuals with disabilities from participating in everyday life. They will engage with organizations facing such barriers, encouraging them to apply for funding through the EAF Youth Innovation Component.
4. Applicants will assist interested organizations in completing the application for funding for accessibility projects valued up to $10,000.
