Description:
The Achievement Incentive is a grant program that helps employers train apprentices by reducing some of the cost of training and that supports apprentice progression by giving grant payments to employers when their apprentices reach major milestones. The program offers up to $17,000 to eligible employers when apprentices meet training and certification milestones.
Comments on Funding:
Funding is up to $17,000 to eligible employers when apprentices meet training and certification milestones, including:
– $1,000 registration payment for each newly registered apprentice to the ministry who is under the age of 25 and/or self-identifies as part of an under-represented group (for a maximum of $2,000, if applicable);
– $1,000 milestone payments for each level of in-class training completed by the apprentice, up to a maximum of four levels;
– an additional $1,000 milestone payment for each apprentice under the age of 25 and/or apprentice that self-identifies as being part of an under-represented group (for a maximum of $12,000, where applicable);
– an additional $1,000 payment once the apprentice achieves the highest level of trade certification in their respective trade, such as Certificate of Apprenticeship or Certificate of Qualification;
– an additional $1,000 for each apprentice under the age of 25 and/or apprentice that self-identifies as being part of an under-represented group (for a maximum of $3,000).
Continuous Intake
Eligibility:
Applicants must:
1. be a corporation or unincorporated businesses that is subject to Ontario income taxes;
2. have a Federal/Ontario Business Number;
3. have an address or permanent work site in Ontario;
4. be an approved ministry sponsor for apprenticeship; and
5. have registered a training agreement with an apprentice in a prescribed trade regulated under the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021 (BOSTA).
Application Steps:
1. Eligible sponsors will be provided with an email notification from the ministry when apprentices meet AI program milestones prior to being issued payment;
2. In the initial email notification, eligible sponsors identified in the EOIS-APPR system will be provided with a web-link to complete and submit an electronic application through a secure domain. This will be a one-time application where eligible sponsors will provide their trade, business and banking information once. In exceptional circumstances, a paper application can be made available through the local apprenticeship office.
