Description:

The Methane Emissions Reduction program supports technologies that detect, monitor, and mitigate methane emissions reductions from Alberta’s oil and gas industry.

Comments on Funding:

Project funding can be up to and typically does not exceed $2 million per project from the Process. The continuous intake programs normally support 25 – 50% of total project costs, with remaining funding from other project partners and other funding agencies (including cash and in-kind support).

Eligibility:

Applicants must be technology developers, industry, industrial associations, small and medium-sized enterprises, research and development (R&D) organizations, post-secondary institutions, municipalities, not-for-profit organizations, government research labs, individuals and others, who are advancing technology development within a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) range of 3-7.

Applicants are not required to be based in Alberta, but must demonstrate a clear value proposition for the Province and be able to clearly demonstrate alignment to the program area priorities.

Application Steps:

Applicants must:

1. Contact a Clean Resources Project Advisor to assess if project scope meets the requirements;
2. Register on the SmartSimple Online Application Portal.
3. Complete and submit the Intake Form on SmartSimple’s–within the Funding Opportunities tab on the Portal dashboard.
4. Wait for the Intake Form to be reviewed to determine if the proposed project will be invited to submit a Detailed Proposal.

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must submit a completed Clean Resources Continuous Intake Form. Additional information as requested.

Other Things to Note:

Funding requests are split into the following two application types:
1. Low Dollar – Projects under $250K. Low dollar funding decisions may take 3 months.
2. High Dollar – Projects $250K and higher. High dollar funding requests may take 4 – 6 months due to the more detailed information required within the online proposal.
If the review is positive, a funding recommendation will be made to senior management and may include adjustments to the funding request and/or funding conditions.
