Description:

The purpose of the AgriStability Program is to provide Canadian agricultural producers with an ongoing whole-farm risk management tool that provides protection against large declines in farming income that threaten the viability of their farm and are beyond their capacity to manage. The compensation rate has increased to 80%.

Comments on Funding:

The Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP) is a new $3.5-billion, five-year agreement, which runs April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2028. This agreement between the federal, provincial and territorial governments strengthens the competitiveness, innovation, and resiliency of the agriculture, agri‐food and agri‐based products sector. The agreement includes $1 billion in federal programs and activities and $2.5 billion in cost-shared programs and activities funded by federal, provincial and territorial governments.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

1. Have carried on the business of farming in Canada.
2. Have conducted a minimum of six consecutive months of farming activity
3. Have complete a production cycle for the program year for which you are enrolling (a production cycle includes the growing and harvesting of a crop, the process of rearing livestock, such as the calving of cows or farrowing of sows or the purchase and sale of livestock in the case of feeding and finishing enterprises)
4. Have reported farming income (loss) for income tax purposes to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
5. Have met all program requirements by the deadlines established by AFSC.

Application Steps:

Applicants must:

1. Complete the Application for Fee Notice form and return it to AFSC by email at info@afsc.ca or drop it off at your AFSC office.
2. Once enrolled, you will receive an enrolment/fee notice. You will receive this notice annually for as long as you are in the program.
3. Pay your fee and administrative cost share ($55) by the deadline.

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must submit completed supplementary forms and farm tax information to AFSC by the deadline. Completed forms, including application, opt-out, supplementary, and tax statements, can be submitted to AFSC by logging in to your AFSC Connect account or via email at info@afsc.ca

Other Things to Note:

April 30:
– Deadline for enrolment request for the program year;
– Deadline to opt out of the program;
– Deadline to pay the program fee, without penalty.

September 30: Deadline to submit program forms, without penalty.

December 31:
– Deadline to pay program fee, with 20% penalty;
– Deadline to submit program forms, with penalty.

If a participant does not pay the program fee by December 31 (or 60 days after the issuing of their enrolment/fee notice, whichever is later), they will become ineligible to participate in that program year. Any outstanding fees along with the 20 per cent penalty must still be paid .
