Description:
The Organization Project Grant assists Alberta-based companies engaged in the production of books, magazines or sound recordings, as well as some screen-based projects. Grants may be used to support projects in art production, training, career development, marketing and research. This grant, under the Alberta Media Fund (AMF), supports the growth and sustainability of Alberta’s cultural industries by helping them employ talented professionals, develop intellectual property and create quality products.
Comments on Funding:
Organizations can apply for up to 100% of eligible expenses up to a maximum of $20,000. All applications are assessed by an expert panel who make funding recommendations to the department.

Eligibility:
Applicants must:
1. Be organizations primarily engaged in the production of Books, eBooks, Magazines, eMagazines, Sound recordings, Film, and Video
2. Be registered and in good standing with the appropriate legislation
3. Based in Alberta
4. Be majority owned by Alberta residents
For book publishers, applicants must publish or plan to publish books that:
1. Are permanent-bound
2. Are at least 48 printed pages
3. Are in editions of at least 500 copies
4. Have at least 50% of printed copies eligible for sale
For eBook publishers, applicants must have ebooks that:
1. Are available through major online retailers
2. Are at least 48 pages of print equivalent
3. Have at least 75% of all eBook titles for sale
For Magazine publishers, applicants must publish or plan to publish magazines that:
1. Are of literary, artistic, or children’s interest (500 copies in print)
2. Have editorial policies controlled by an editor or editorial board
3. Have a policy that the copyright for all published material resides with the author
4. Have a clear distinction between editorial content and advertising, with advertising-sponsored content and supplements clearly identified
For Sound Recording companies, applicants must:
1. Develop, produce, license, release, promote, and distribute sound recordings
2. Have the production copyright of the sound recording owned or licensed by the label for each recording released
For Film Production companies, applicants must:
1. Be primarily engaged in film and video productions for public viewing
2. Create or have created a production with a running time, or combined times, of at least 30 minutes
Application Steps:
Applicants must:
1. Review the Project Grant Stream Program Guidelines to review the program and application requirements
2. Create an online profile for new applicants. Request access to set up an online profile prior to filling out an application. To set up a profile, complete the GATE Front Office Registration form and email it to: registrationamf@gov.ab.ca. Login credentials will be emailed.
3. Complete the application package and log in to the Online Grant Application System to begin the application and submission.
Documentation Needed:
Applicants must submit:
1. A description of the organization and relevant publishing/production history. For startup companies, evidence of the
experience and commitment of the principals must be provided;
2. A detailed description of the project, including an outline of the objectives, planned activities, and the expected results
and benefits;
3. A detailed project budget, indicating all projected expenditures and income for the project, including the grant amount
requested; and
4. Any support material that may assist in the assessment process.
5. Annual corporate registry documents (annual return) showing the organization’s legal name, shareholder/director
breakdown and standing;
6. The organization’s most recent annual financial statements, as determined by the prior years grant amount, if applicable:
a. – Grants over $50,000 require a Review Engagement Report prepared by a designated accountant; licensed to practice in
Alberta;
b. Grants over $25,000 require a Compilation Engagement Report prepared by an accountant; or
c. Grants of $25,000 or less require a detailed financial statement approved and signed by two board members other than
the Treasurer, or if a sole proprietorship a copy of the most recent T2125 tax form.
7. Resumes for the organizations principals (no more than four pages each); and
8. Any other support material that may be used in the assessment of the application.
Other Things to Note:
Grant deadline is June 1 annually at 11:59 pm MST.
If the grant deadline falls on a weekend, the deadline date will be extended to the next business day. The grant intake window will open 60 days prior to the grant deadline.
