Description:
The International Technology Partnership program helps Alberta technology businesses further develop their product or pilot the technical and business merits of their product to prove its value and advance commercialization. With the International Technology Partnership program, applicants will work with an international partner to prove the product value and advance commercialization.
Comments on Funding:
The International Technology Partnership Program provides support for up to $250,000.
— Alberta Innovates will match the Applicant’s contributions for eligible project costs to a maximum investment of $250,000.
— The Applicant’s matching funds must be in the form of Cash and/or In-kind contributions;
— The International Project Partner is expected to match the Applicant’s contribution. The contribution may be combination of cash and up to 100% in-kind. The funds are provided to cover Eligible Expenses only.
— The collective “Contribution” of $500,000, from the Applicant and International Project Partner, can exceed the $500 000 but to receive the maximum funding from Alberta Innovates it must be at least $500 000. Projects do not have to meet the maximum and the right size projects for the Applicant are encouraged.
Continuous Intake
Eligibility:
Applicants must:
1. Have fewer than 500 full-time employees and less than $50,000,000 in annual gross revenue.
2. Have a project that will bring the technology closer to commercialization through further development, testing, or first pilots of the product in an operational environment.
3. Have the participation of at least one International Project Partner before applying to the program.
4. Complete the project within 18 months and reasonably expect to make their first sale within two years after the project is completed.
5. Your contribution will be matched by the program, and the international project partner is also expected to match the applicant’s contributions, up to a total maximum investment of $750,000.
6. Be a for-profit Corporation, General Partnership, Limited Partnership or Limited Liability Partnership and registered in Alberta.
7. Be an Alberta-based companies with an Alberta footprint, which includes a significant physical and corporate operations in Alberta; appropriate Alberta ownership; and discernible intent that operational benefits will flow primarily within the Province of Alberta.

Applicants must:
1. Identify a project and International Technology Partner
2. Connect with a Technology Development Advisor to assess if the project scope meets the minimum requirements of aligning with International Technology Partnership Program requirements.
3. Register and submit an application on the SmartSimple Online Application Portal, including the filled and signed Alberta Innovates Letter of Interest from the International Project Partner.
