Business Improvement Area Grants: Storefront Improvement Grant

The Business Improvement Area Grants provide funding for commercial buildings and businesses located or planning to locate in Business Improvement Areas (BIAs).
The Storefront Improvement Grant is a matching reimbursement grant for large, significant exterior renovations, up to 50% of project costs. Mid-block buildings may be eligible for up to $25,000. Corner buildings may be eligible for up to $50,000.

Deadline: February 1-29, 2024 April 1-30, 2024 September 1-30, 2024

Applicants must:

  • be commercial property owners or someone approved by the property owner to act on their behalf;
  • be businesses;
  • be willing to invest in exterior renovations to commercial storefronts;
  • be based in the City of Edmonton;
  • have properties that meet the following requirements:
    a) Construction work has not started;
    b) Projects are located within a Business Improvement Area or other Council-approved Target Area;
    c) Projects will support commercial use on the main floor. Home based businesses do not
    d) Properties have not previously received a Storefront Improvement Grant/Facade
    Improvement Program Grant;
    e) Projects include at least one critical improvement;
    f) Buildings will have clear, unobscured street-level windows once construction is complete
    and for the 5 year maintenance period:
    i. Window tints, vinyl wraps, tinted or frosted glass, large window decals, and
    window perforations that obscure views in and out of the building are not permitted.
