Métis Entrepreneurs’ Assistance Program (MEAP)

The Métis Entrepreneurs’ Assistance Program (MEAP) provides equity assistance for the start-up or the expansion of Métis-owned small businesses. It can provide up to 30% of your project total to a maximum of $99,999.

Comments on Funding:

Funding takes the form of non-repayable grants of up to 30% of the project total to a maximum of $99,999.
Applicants are required to have a minimum of 10% of their project totals costs.
The remaining 60%, after the contribution and the grant, would be funds from a business loan.

Deadline: Continuous Intake

Applicant must:

  • be Métis Residents and their small business must be located in Alberta,
  • have a minimum of 6 months to one year of experience in the industry they are starting their business;
  • have a business start-up or expansion project with a value exceeding $20,000;
  • generate a minimum income of $20,000 annually for the applicant
  • obtain financing through a commercial lender for the costs that are not covered by the grant and the cash equity.

    Applicants that received the grant in the past and a minimum of 2 years has passed can apply for the grant again.
