Description:

The Affordable Housing Investment Program includes a grant stream specifically for Indigenous-led housing providers. It provides limited capital funding to Indigenous organizations to build new affordable housing units and/or rehabilitate existing affordable housing units.

Comments on Funding:

The City provides up to 25% of total capital costs for affordable housing. Grants of up to 40% will be considered for proposals that include deep subsidies for priority groups, such as women and children fleeing domestic violence, exceed energy efficiency targets, and provide larger units.

Eligibility:

Applicants of the Indigenous Housing stream must meet the following requirements:
1) Applicants must be able to own the project lands, given that the City requires a grant funding affordable housing agreement with the fee simple owners of the project lands, including caveat registration on title, and
2) Applicants must be an Indigenous organization, in which Indigenous persons have at least 51% ownership and control of the organization. Where land ownership involves an Indigenous organization and non-Indigenous organization, the Indigenous organization must own at least 51% of the project lands. In such cases, Applicants will include both the Indigenous and non-Indigenous organization.

Applicants must:
1. Review the grant guides for more information and to find out if you qualify. All applicants must attend a pre-application meeting. Please contact us via email: AHIPgrant@edmonton.ca and we will respond within 3 business days.
2. All application documents are to be submitted through the City’s SmartSimple grant portal. Any applications not submitted through SmartSimple will not be considered for funding.
