Alberta Breeder Finance Inc. provides loans to farmers for eligible livestock (heifer calves, bred heifers, bred cows, cow-calf pairs, ewe lambs and yearling ewes).


Comments on Funding:

Funding takes the form of loans of maximum $250,000 per operation, on exception to a maximum of $500,000 (additional credit assessment).

Loan terms and fees:
1. Interest Rate of Prime + 0.90% (ATB Financial Prime rate 6.7% and effective rate is 7.6% as at January 25, 2023).
2. 100% Value Financing for up to 6 year terms* (Costs include: branding, pregnancy testing, commissions and clearing charges, excluding trucking).
3. 10% Security Deposit (Pooled Deposit) or use the Equity that you have in your own Cattle.
4. Maximum Per Head Loan Limits - effective March 1, 2022:
a) Heifers to Breed: $2100/hd;
b) Bred Heifers - ready to calve: $2600/hd or $3000/hd with LPIP;
c) Youthful Bred Cows (under 5yrs) - ready to calve: $2600/hd or $3000/hd with LPIP;
d) Older Bred Cows (over 5yrs) 2 yr loan: $2100/hd;
e) Cow/Calf Pairs (under 5yrs): $3000/pair or $3500/pair with LPIP;
f) Cow/Calf Pairs (over 5yrs) 2 yr loan: $2800/pair;
g) Ewe Lambs: $260/hd;
h) Yearling Ewes: $325/hd.

Eligibility:

The applicant must:

  • be a farmer who is at least 18 years old, resides in Alberta and owns or leases land;
  • farm eligible livestock: heifer calves, bred heifers, bred cows, cow-calf pairs, ewe lambs and yearling ewes;
  • be approved by a local feeder association. Contact your local feeder association for more information.
