Applicants must be Canadian exporters. To determine if your product qualifies for tariff exemptions or reductions, applicants must:
1. Find the tariff classification of your product
2. Verify your product meets the rules of origin
a. Rules of origin are the guidelines that determine where a product is made. They tell you which country a product can be considered to come from based on where it was manufactured or what materials were used to make it.
b. All internationally traded goods are required to have an origin when they are declared to customs at the point of import.
3. Use the World Customs Organization – Rules of Origin Facilitator to find out:
a. Import duties in foreign markets applicable to your product
b. Available duty savings
c. Detailed rules of origin
d. Certification procedures
