Description:

The ENCQOR 5G TalentEdge Internships provides support for current college and university students and recent undergraduate or Masters graduates, to work on industry-driven research and development projects related to 5G, wireless and digital technologies at Ontario-based SMEs, preferably using the 5G Innovation Platform as a Service (iPaaS) testbed.

Comments on Funding:

Each four-month internship unit is valued at $20,000. Funding is $10,000, the remainder of $10,000 coming from the applicant and/or partner(s) (at least $5,000 of the contribution from the applicant/partner(s) must be in cash).
Interns must receive a minimum compensation of $15,000 per four-month internship period of the $20,000 value of the four-month internship, and up to $5,000 may be applied towards the direct cost of the project.
Funding is $10,000 per four-month unit for eligible project costs, up to $60,000 (six units).

Eligibility:

Applicants must:
1. be for-profit, incorporated in Ontario or Canada, and have a valid CRA business number;
2. be Small- or Medium-Sized Enterprise (SME) with fewer than 500 total employees;
3. be developing 5G, wireless or digital technology-based innovation or innovative processes for competitive advantage in provincial, national and/or global markets in response to an ENCQOR 5G SME Technology Development Challenge Statement or, preferably, utilizing the iPaaS testbed;
4. have operations and/or R&D in Ontario related to the project;
5. have the intent and potential to apply, exploit and/or commercialize the results of the project for the economic benefit of Ontario;
6. have the necessary expertise and resources to put the project into effect within an appropriate time frame;
7. company subsidiaries (organizations with headquarters outside of Ontario) are eligible, provided that the Ontario operations meet all of the above criteria.
8. be in good financial and reporting standing with OCE (also applies to their partners).

Application Steps:

1. Applicants must complete the Eligibility Questionnaire when ready to apply for funding.
2. If the applicant/partner, intern and project meet the program eligibility criteria, they will be sent a link to OCI’s online application system, AccessOCE.
3. Applicants must complete the online application form, in collaboration with the industry partner if applicable, and upload the required supporting documents.

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must submit:
1. the Eligibility Questionnaire when ready to apply for funding,
2. the application form,
3. the Company Profile, including valid nine-digit CRA business number, incorporation date and number of employees (globally and in Ontario),
4. the intern’s CV and official transcript.

Other Things to Note:

This program is no longer accessible; bu TIP as a separate program is still offered by OCI.
