Who can apply

  1. First Nations, MĂ©tis Settlements, MĂ©tis and non-status Indigenous communities
  2. Indigenous community-owned businesses and development corporations
  3. Tribal Councils, Treaty Organizations, MĂ©tis Settlements General Council, MĂ©tis Nation of Alberta, or similar Indigenous community-driven organizations
  4. Not-for-profit organizations that have Indigenous clean energy, economic development, or a related focus within their mandates

  1. identify your community’s priorities;
  2. explore potential opportunities and partnerships;
  3. develop your capacity to lead clean energy projects;

The AICEI can support renewable energy generation or energy efficiency projects that are led by, or for the benefit of, First Nation and MĂ©tis communities in Alberta. These include:

  6. Biomass
  7. Hydrogen

Energy efficiency improvement

  1. Building upgrades and retrofits
  2. Efficiency measures such as lighting and appliances
  3. Energy audits

Capacity building

The initiative helps communities build capacity and develop projects.

  1. Workshops, events and networking
  2. Clean energy champion development
  3. Skill development and training
  4. Pathfinding

Project development supports

  1. Community energy planning
  2. Feasibility and diagnostic studies
  3. Environmental evaluations and permitting
  4. Market assessments
  5. Business and financial project planning
  6. Project design

The AICEI is funded through the Strategic Partnerships Initiative, led by Indigenous Services Canada.
