Description:
The NRC IRAP Financial support for technology innovation provides funding for small or medium‑sized Canadian businesses to support research and development projects.
Through a broad range of international activities, the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) also provides direct support to small and medium-sized businesses with international interests. The international programs connect companies with the funding, advisory, export, and innovation services they need to access new markets and global value chains.
Comments on Funding:
This program cost-shares only a portion of the cost of the R&D project activities.
Continuous Intake
Eligibility:
Applicants must:
1. be incorporated, profit-oriented small or medium-sized business in Canada,
2. have 500 or fewer full-time equivalent employees,
3. plan to pursue growth and profit by developing and commercializing innovative, technology-driven new or improved products, services or processes in Canada.
Application Steps:
The applicant must:
1. call the National Research Council Canada at 1-877-994-4727 and discuss to determine the eligibility,
2. if eligible, next step is to discuss with one of the industrial technology advisors (ITA) (topics: business strategy, issues, opportunities for growth, future plans),
3. develop a project proposal.
If successful, applicants will receive the financial contribution to share the costs of their R&D project activities, and they will need to submit monthly reimbursement claims to NRC IRAP. Their ITA will support them throughout their project.
Documentation Needed:
To assist NRC in undertaking preliminary due diligence of the applicant’s firm to be considered for NRC IRAP support, please have available:
1. a business plan or pitch deck;
2. a copy of the company financials;
3. resumes or biographies for each member of the management team and technical team on staff.
