Description:
The Research and Knowledge Initiative (RKI) is a competitive, merit-based contributions funding program that supports data and research on issues related to public infrastructure and communities. The purpose of the Research and Knowledge Initiative is to advance the understanding of public infrastructure needs, challenges, and opportunities relevant to Canadians. The program also aims facilitate collaboration among key public infrastructure actors and stakeholders, and support data, research, and knowledge-sharing activities.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be:
1. Legal entities incorporated or registered in Canada such as:
a. Non-governmental (not for profit) organizations, including:
i. Industry, research, and professional associations
ii. National Indigenous organizations and Indigenous communities
ii. Community and regional organizations
iv. Other non-profit organizations
b. Canadian academic institutions
c. Provincial, territorial, regional municipal or Indigenous governments
d. Private (for profit) organizations
2. International not-for-profit legal entities validly incorporated or registered abroad, including:
a. Industry, research and professional associations
b. International organizations (e.g., Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development)
c. Academic institutions
d. Other non-profit organizations
Multiple organizations that come together to advance a project must identify a clear lead and explain the roles of each partner.

Please note that Chapter M-30 of the Act respecting the Ministère du Conseil exécutif may apply to Quebec-based recipients and Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada encourages such applicants to obtain applicable third-party approvals as early as possible in the application/funding process.
