Career-Launcher Digital Tech Internships

Career-Launcher Digital Internships are wage and training subsidies offered to employers who hire a digital technology intern for up to 6 months in a full-time position.

Comments on Funding:

Funding of up to $28,000 is available for an intern’s salary and training expenses. Up to $4,000 can be used for intern training during the internship, and $24,000 can cover up to 100% of the intern’s salary.
Reimbursement will be dispersed midway and at the end of the internship when the required documentation, including intern paystubs, is submitted.

The applicant/ employer must:

  • have an established payroll system and be set up to receive payments by direct deposit, and have a process for supervising and mentoring interns,
  • be a Canadian for-profit or not-for-profit organization or subsidiary with 500 employees or less.
  • hire a new employee within a digital field. Digital fields include: coding and programming, artificial intelligence, automation, big data, cybersecurity, robotics, digital media and design, video game and production editing, digital marketing and information technology, etc.

    The intern must:
  • be a post-secondary graduate (not a requirement for residents of the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut applying for internships in those territories) or underemployed (employed below their level of education, work part-time or unemployed),
  • be between the ages of 15-30 (inclusive) at the start of the internship,
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person granted refugee status in Canada,
  • be legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations,
  • be available to work for at least 6 months,
  • be a new employee (not employees of the hiring employer prior to the start of their internship (does not apply to previous coop students or student interns),
  • not be a previous participant of a Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS) internship.
Application Steps:

The applicant:

1. must register as an employer and create an online account on the Career-Launcher website;

2. must apply using their account. Once the applications window is closed, the Career Launcher team will review all applications. 3. will be notified of his application status approximately one week after the closing of the application period.

4. whose applications will be pre-approved for funding will have approximately three weeks to complete the remainder of the application process, including recruitment if required. Specific deadlines will be provided in the pre-approval email.

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must upload all the corresponding paystubs and training receipts (if applicable). Should applicants not have official paystubs, they must also include proof of payment (copies of e-transfer or direct deposit confirmations).

2. CICan Internships are funded by the Government of Canada as part of the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy.
