Description:

The Grassroots Growth Program (GGP) provides funding to initiatives that will support government priorities, such as supporting the growth of Ontario’s agri-food sector, ensuring sustainability of agriculture and fostering vibrant rural economies.

Comments on Funding:

Cost-share funding is strongly encouraged for all projects. It is a requirement for provincial agri-food producer organization local marketing projects.
Combined federal and provincial funding cannot exceed 100% of the project’s eligible costs.

For Targeted, cost-shared local marketing projects funding is up to 50% of eligible project costs for projects up to $100,000 in cost-share funding. Projects that support more than one commodity may request additional funding, but not more than 50% of total eligible costs.

Funding may be provided at the amount requested, at a reduced amount or not at all, depending on funding availability and project assessment.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:
1. be a sole proprietor, corporation, partnership, or unincorporated association, including an Indigenous community or band council,
2. have the authority to enter into a legal agreement,
3. disclose all other possible sources of funding being provided or having been requested for the project,
4. be in compliance with all Requirements of Law and agree to remain in compliance for the term of the agreement.

Application Steps:

Applicants must:
1. request the application template from ag.info.omafra@ontario.ca.
2. submit the application and any supporting documentation by email at ag.info.omafra@ontario.ca.

3. OMAFRA will send applicants a confirmation of receipt within five business days. If applicants do not receive confirmation, they must call 1-877-424-1300.
4. Successful applicants will be required to enter into an agreement with the Province of Ontario and to comply with all the terms and conditions of the agreement before GGI funds can be provided for their project.

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must submit their application and provide specific details to support the project including, without limitation:
a. detailed project design,
b. rationale for why the project should be undertaken and anticipated impact,
c. organizational capacity to deliver the project,
d. work plan and timelines,
e. financial capacity and budget (detailed activity-based budget).
