Description:
Self Employment Assistance helps individuals in St. John’s and Mount Pearl who are eligible for or in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) Benefits, and would like to start their own business. This program enables eligible individuals to create jobs for themselves through self-employment by providing financial assistance, on-going business advice and support, and access to business skills development opportunities for a maximum of 52 weeks.

Eligibility:
Applicants must:
1. be qualified individuals;
2. be eligible for or in receipt of EI benefits;
3. be residents in St. John’s and Mount Pearl.

Documentation Needed:
Applicants must provide the following:
1. A referral from Department of Advanced Education and Skills Confirming EI Eligibility;
2. An application for 10-week Concept Development Period OR Submit Completed Business Plan;
3. A Self-Employment Assistance Program Application;
4. A Current Resume;
5. A Completed Equity Statement;
6. A Proof of Required Financing;
7. A Copy of City Business Permit.
