Description:
The Feature Film Marketing Fund program assists applicants with the promotion and marketing of feature film projects at time of theatrical release, festivals and markets to either enhance the promotion and marketing of the release theatrically and/or to attract the attention of distributors/ sales agents to support the increase in commercial interest in the project.
Comments on Funding:
Funding will be offered in the form of a non-recoupable grant provided that all eligibility criteria, recognition requirements, and reports are provided to the satisfaction of Manitoba Film & Music.
Manitoba Film & Music’s contribution shall not exceed 50% of the total
event cash Budget for the project, to a maximum of the following:
a. $3,000 if in Canada;
b. $5,000 if in US or Mexico;
c $7,500 in Rest of the World.
No more than one application per project per above territory will be considered.There is a maximum of $10,000 per funding period (April 1st to March 31st) per associated parent company.
Continuous Intake
Eligibility:
Applicants must
1. be a resident Manitoba producer, defined as a producer who operates a production company in Manitoba;
2. be majority owned and controlled by Manitoba residents. Note: Applications must be submitted by an eligible Manitoba resident producer.
3. When a project involves a Manitoba Director and a Non-Manitoba Producer, both need to be included on the application. This is the only time that a Manitoba Director may apply (otherwise, the applicant must be the Manitoba Producer). (Partnerships with the distributor/sales agent where applicable are encouraged).
4. have eligible projects, including:
a) projects receiving Manitoba Film & Music financing through the Feature Film Production Fund;
b) a scripted, fictional (drama or comedy) feature length film or a feature length documentary;
c) a live action or animation;
d) a completed production, ready for distribution;
e) produced by a Manitoba Producer with or without a secured distributor/sales agent;
f) applying for an event that is industry recognized. This includes, but is not limited to, the following festivals or markets:
i. Cannes;
ii. TIFF;
iii. Venice;
iv. Sundance;
v. Berlin;
vi. Tribeca.
Application Steps:
Applicants must submit through Manitoba Film & Music’s new online application portal: https://www.mbfilmmusic.ca/apply
Documentation Needed:
Applicants must provide:
1. Detailed event budget (locked, signed and dated);
2. Signed commitment letters from all funders (including declaration of producer investment, if
applicable);
3. Marketing plan specific to the Event, covering the following:
a) Specific goal(s) for attending the Event;
b) Target audience – buyers/distributors, sales agents, programmers, media (list of
people/companies you are targeting and the basis for selecting them);
c) Specific and measurable outcomes to be achieved; and
d) Description of activities covered by the budget to be completed during the Event.
4. Drafts of marketing materials to be used at the Event (if available);
5. One copy of the completed project.
Other Things to Note:
There are no set deadlines for this program, applications can be sent in throughout the year; however, applications must be received at least three weeks prior to the event/release.
