Sustainable Agriculture Manitoba (SAM): Crop Land Management

Sustainable Agriculture Manitoba (SAM) provides funding to farmers and land managers to implement cost-shared beneficial management practices (BMPs) that increase the environmental and economic sustainability of agriculture operations in Manitoba. The Crop Land Management provides funding to support the adoption of cropland management practices that optimize operations and improve productivity.


Comments on Funding:

Funding takes the form of contributions ranging from $10,000 to $140,000 with a cost-share ratio between government and the applicant, ratio varies and funds also vary per stream.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:

  • primary producers that:
    a) have a valid Statement of Completion for an Environmental Farm Plan;
    b) manage agricultural land used to produce agricultural products;
    c) own land where the project will be executed or have permission from the land owner to execute the project
    d) have a Manitoba Premises Identification Number (livestock producers only).
    Applicants can be located outside of Manitoba if the project activities have a positive outcome for Manitoba and if they have a valid EFP from their province of residence.
  • commercial manure applicators with a valid Commercial Manure Applicators License.
  • custom pesticide applicators with a valid Custom Pesticide Applicators License .

Other Things to Note:

1. This program is part of the Sustainable Canadian Agriculture Partnership.
2. The intake for this program is currently open, funding requests will be accepted from April 28, 2023 to 11:59 pm on June 13, 2023.
3. Projects must be completed by March 31, 2024.
