Description:

The Research and Innovation Program supports the development of science-based solutions and tools that address known challenges, prepare for potential disruptions and climate threats, and capture emerging opportunities in the agriculture and agri-food sector. The Program provides funding to eligible applicants for basic and applied research and capacity building projects that advance the growth and sustainability of the sector by fast-tracking the pace of innovation. This can include the development of new technologies and practices, new products, and the advancement of knowledge.

Comments on Funding:

The two funding streams available for research and innovation financial assistance have the following cost share between government and the applicant
1. Basic and Applied Research: (IP: 70:30 on first $100,000, 60:40 on the remaining amount; Non-IP: 50:50)
2. Capacity Building: (50:50)

April 24, 2025

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:

1. Agri-processors
2. Indigenous Government/Indigenous individuals, businesses, communities, and organizations, other Indigenous groups undertaking agricultural initiatives
Industry Organizations
3. Primary Producers
4. Research Institutions
Service Providers

Application Steps:

Aplicants must:
1. submit the Letter of Intent to the program administrator via email agriculture@gov.mb.ca no later than the deadline.
2. selected applicants who submitted complete Letters of Intent will be invited to complete an application worksheet

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must submit:
1. completed Letter of Intent;
2. completed Application Worksheet;
3. other documents as requested.

Other Things to Note:

Project Timeline
1. Projects may be single or multi-year.
2. All projects shall start on April 1, 2026 or later.
3. Project activities must be completed, and all reports submitted on or before December 31, 2027.
