Artists in Communities grants support arts-related activities for underserved applicants and/or communities that face barriers to accessing artistic opportunities.

Manitoba residents

To apply for MAC grants, you must be a resident of Manitoba and either a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident.

This means that before applying for a MAC grant:

  1. You must have a permanent physical address in Manitoba; and
  2. You must have lived in Manitoba for at least one full year*

*Exemptions:

If you live in Manitoba, you can be absent from the province for up to one year if:

  1. the absence is temporary (for example: because of an artistic opportunity, or because you’re in school);
  2. you do not apply for public funding from the province or country where you are temporarily living.

About the funding

  1. Micro-grant: $1,000 (for individual applicants only)
  2. Small scale: up to $7,500
  3. Large scale: up to $15,000

Large scale grants over $7,500 must have a matching amount of revenue within the budget from other sources equal to or greater than the amount requested from MAC.

You can only receive up to $30,000 of MAC grants within a calendar year.*

Most of MAC grants are released in two installments (with the exception of Support – Operate, and Recognize – Prizes).

  1. First installment:
  2. After you complete the funding agreement, MAC will send your first grant payment (90% of the awarded amount).
  3. It will be sent at the earliest two months before the project start date listed in your application.
  4. If your project starts within 60 days of being awarded, MAC will send your first grant payment within 2 to 4 weeks of receiving your funding agreement.
  5. Second installment:
  6. After you submit your final report and it is approved by MAC, we will send the remaining 10% of your grant.
  7. It may take MAC up to 15 business days to process your payment.

If you applied on behalf of an arts group or an organization, your grant will be made payable in the group or the organization’s name. A bank account in the group or organization’s name is required.

Expenses – what is eligible An Artists in Communities grant can be used towards direct costs related to the

proposed activities. Examples of eligible expenses include:

  1. Fees to collaborating artist
  • Travel expenses • Materials expenses
  1. Production and publication expenses
  2. Etc.
