Description:
Sustainable Agriculture Manitoba (SAM) provides funding to primary producers and land managers to implement cost-shared beneficial management practices (BMPs). The objective of SAM is to increase the environmental and economic sustainability of agriculture operations in Manitoba. Priority areas include climate change adaptation and mitigation, air quality, water quality and quantity, soil health, and biodiversity.
Comments on Funding:
The total Canadian government funding stacking limit is 75% of the total approved eligible costs. Under Cropland Management funding stream, the following BMPs have the corresponding overall cap:
1. Reduced Tillage Intensity: $80,000 at 30:70 government/applicant cost share ratio
2. Low Disturbance Placement of Fertilizer: $65,000 at 30:70 government/applicant cost share ratio
3. Reduced Pesticide Use: $55,000 at 50:50 government/applicant cost share ratio
4. Soil Landscape Restoration: $30,000 at 50:50 government/applicant cost share ratio
5. Perennial Cover for Sensitive Lands: $10,000 at 50:50 government/applicant cost share ratio

Eligibility:
Applicants must:
1. primary producers that:
a) have a valid Statement of Completion for an Environmental Farm Plan;
b) manage agricultural land used to produce agricultural products;
c) own land where the project will be executed or have permission from the land owner to execute the project
d) have a Manitoba Premises Identification Number (livestock producers only).
Applicants can be located outside of Manitoba if the project activities have a positive outcome for Manitoba and if they have a valid EFP from their province of residence.
2. commercial manure applicators with a valid Commercial Manure Applicators License.
3. custom pesticide applicators with a valid Custom Pesticide Applicators License .
Application Steps:
Applicants must:
1. submit the Applicant Information Forms and Application Worksheets to the
program administrator no later than the deadline.
2. email the completed forms and required documentation
to Manitoba Agriculture at agriculture@gov.mb.ca.
