Description:

The Mentorship Component supports developmental employment relationships between Developing and Export-Ready Artists/Companies/Entrepreneurs (Mentee) and mentors in which a more experienced music industry professional (Mentor) shares information, skills or knowledge, and standards or best practices that will advance the applicant’s career, enhance their education and build their networks. The applicant (Mentee) should receive the primary benefit of the mentorship.

Comments on Funding:

Level of Investment – $15,000.00 maximum per Applicant per Deadline
Percentage of Investment – 75% of total budget up to max investment

Eligibility:

The applicant (Mentees) must be:
1. a Developing Company/Entrepreneur (must meet all of the following): a) Nova Scotian owned business with at least a 51% Nova Scotian client base;
b) be a registered Nova Scotian business with CRA business numbers for at least one (1) year (including registered sole proprietors or partnerships);
c) a non-Nova Scotian Developing Company/Entrepreneur may not be the Applicant for a Nova Scotian Artist;
d) be engaged in the primary activities of Artist Management, Booking Agent, Licensing/Sync, Music Publisher, Music Producer, Promoter, Publicity/Promotions, Record Label, Recording Studio or some combination of the foregoing;
e) can demonstrate revenues from core business activities including the sale and licensing of recorded music, publishing and commissions;
2. an Export-Ready Company/Entrepreneur (must meet all of the following): a) Nova Scotian owned business with at least a 51% Nova Scotian client base;
b) be a registered Nova Scotian business with CRA business numbers (including registered sole proprietors or partnerships);
c) a non-Nova Scotian business may be the Applicant for a Nova Scotian Artist;
d) be engaged in the primary activities of Artist Management, Booking Agent, Licensing/Sync, Music Publisher, Music Producer, Promoter, Publicity/Promotions, Record Label, Recording Studio or some combination of the foregoing.

1. contact the Program Manager in advance to discuss their mentorship project to ensure they and their proposed activity are eligible;

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must submit:
1. a Mentorship Plan from both the Mentee and Mentor, which sets out in detail all
the intended activities to be undertaken during the Mentorship project;
2. a Detailed Budget.
