Description:

The Getting Started, Creation and Training Schedule supports the government’s commitments to tourism and cultural industries related education and training in keeping with the guiding principle of Pilimmaksarniq/Pijariuqsarniq (development of skills though practice, effort and action). This schedule supports small businesses, individuals, organizations and municipalities that seek to start, build upon, or enhance their service delivery capacity or hone their artistic ability.

Comments on Funding:

Minimum contribution of $1,000 and Maximum per project per annum of $35,000.

Artists must contribute at least 10% of the project costs for which funding is provided. All other applicants must contribute at least 20% of the costs of any activity for which funding is provided. This may include an in-kind contribution or cash contribution.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

1. Be a Nunavut Small Businesses licensed as outfitters, or seeking to begin outfitting;
2. Be Municipalities;
3. Be artists or Artist Groups;
4. Be Arts Organizations; and
5. Be Societies.

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must:

1. Submit Project Description;
2. Submit support for the Project (including letters of support and/or demonstration of funding from other sources);
3. Submit Project Budget (including quotes from a supplier where applicable)
4. Submit Expected Outcomes;
5. Submit Projected Social and/or Economic Return on Investment; and
6. Submit additional information provided (Include as much as possible to support your application)
–Submit an Artist biography
–Submit a Portfolio of Art (pictures of artwork)
–Past effectiveness and impact of the individual artist, or an organization or studio;
–For residencies, training: a letter of invitation and/or registration

On a case-by-case basis, any other supporting data deemed necessary by the Project Assessor.

Other Things to Note:

Eligible Activities:
1. Purchase of raw materials, art supplies, and equipment;
2. Establishment or reestablishment of a sustainable business or service;
3. Artist-in-residence;
4. Arts training, mentoring, and workshops, including youth-based initiatives;
5. Innovation in the Tourism and Arts sectors;
6. Tourism Planning and Coordination; and
7. Business skills training opportunities, including guide training for tourism businesses.
