Description:

This program provides financial assistance to individuals, organizations, businesses, or societies who wish to undertake projects and/or activities that support the promotion, advocacy, research, development and diversification of Nunavut’s sealing and fur sectors.

Comments on Funding:

The total maximum amount available for contributions is $150,000 per fiscal year.

This program is subject to financial availability. Contribution amounts are made on a first come, first served basis and are contingent upon the project proposed and how well it meets the eligibility and review criteria outlined in this policy, the needs of other applications, and strategic annual planning needs.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be individuals, registered businesses, societies, organizations, and community groups, as well as, government agencies, and academic institutions interested in delivering seal and fur-related projects in Nunavut.

Application Steps:

Applicants must complete the Funding Application Form and submit to:
Fisheries and Sealing Division
Department of Economic Development and Transportation
Box 1000 Station 1390, Iqaluit, Nunavut, XOA OHO

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must:

1. Submit funding application form.
2. Submit a detailed project budget.

Other Things to Note:

–Payment can be in the form of a financial contribution or in the form of a sealskin or fur product(s). Sealskin or fur product(s) will be outlined in the applicant’s budget and assigned a value based on Department of Environment’s Fur Tracking System.
–Payment in the form of a contribution will be made upon execution of a contribution agreement between the Minister of Economic Development and Transportation and the successful recipient.
–Contributions will be paid in instalments, unless otherwise determined in the contribution agreement.
–Grants will be paid in one lump sum.
