Rebate
Description:
The NWT Film Rebate Program provides incentives to production companies to choose the NWT for their location filming needs. It rebates costs associated with the purchase of goods and services, travel to and within the NWT, and the training and hiring of NWT residents.
Comments on Funding:
Funding takes the form of rebates as follows:
1. NWT Labour/Training Rebate:
– 25% rebate for eligible NWT Labour.
– An additional 15% rebate for Recognized Positions or for NWT Resident candidates receiving on-set training.
2. NWT Expenditure Rebate:
– 25% rebate for all Goods and Services that qualify as NWT Spend purchased and consumed in the NWT.
– An additional 15% rebate for Goods and Services for productions shooting outside of Yellowknife city limits.
3. NWT Travel Rebate:
– 10% rebate for travel to and from the NWT from anywhere in the world.
– 35% rebate for travel within the NWT (excluding aerial photography).
Continuous Intake
Eligibility:
Applicants must be professional production companies based anywhere in the world, whose project(s) is anticipated to spend a minimum of $60,000 CAD in the NWT.
Application Steps:
Applicants must:
1. contact the NWT Film Commission at nwtfilm@gov.nt.ca(link sends e-mail) to discuss their application, schedule, and budget;
2. complete an application form;
3. send the completed application form to nwtfilm@gov.nt.ca(link sends e-mail).
Documentation Needed:
Applicants must attach all required documents identified in the application checklist.
Other Things to Note:
Applications are accepted year-round. Funding is distributed on a first-come-first-served basis with funds replenishing on April 1st of each year.
