Description:

The Ontario Job Creation Partnerships program offers funding to eligible employers for projects that give work experience to unemployed Ontarians, help their community and benefit their local economy. Job seekers, also known as participants, can work on projects that:
– benefit the community or local economy;
– add recent work experience to their resume;
– develop or enhance employable skills;
– provide networking opportunities.

Comments on Funding:

Successful applicants will receive funding for eligible costs that the applicant cannot raise on their own or through other partnership sources.
The financial assistance will vary depending on the project scope, duration, participant activities, and contributions from the sponsor and other partners.

Eligibility:

Eligible employers, also known as sponsors, include:
1. Businesses;
2. non-profit organizations;
3. municipalities;
4. Indigenous councils;
5. public health and educational institutions.
Eligible participants must:
1. be unemployed;
2. live in Ontario;
3. be legally authorized to work in Canada;
4. meet at least one of the following criteria:
a) have an active employment insurance (EI) claim,
b) have an EI benefit period that ended within the past five years,
c) have paid employee premiums in at least five of the previous 10 years (where earnings have been at least $2,000 in each of those years).

Application Steps:

Employers must complete an online sponsor application to apply for Ontario Job Creation Partnership funding. Completed applications will be emailed to the appropriate Ministry Office based on the location in Ontario, where the proposed project activities will take place.

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must submit the following supporting documentation in PDF format:
1. Letters Patent/Articles of Incorporation/Union Charter, whichever is applicable;
2. Certificate of Insurance;
3. Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) and a void cheque or direct deposit letter;
4. Budget File.

Other Things to Note:

I. The project must not exceed 52 weeks in length.
II. Eligible participants will be paid through either:
1. Employment Insurance (EI) benefits;
2. financial assistance from the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development.
III. Eligible expenditures are directly related to the development and delivery of the approved project which include but are not limited to the following examples:
1. wages and employment-related costs; (for project staff who are not project participants but are employees of the sponsor – which may include experienced supervisory staff);
2. licenses;
3. permits;
4. professional service fees;
5. leasing or purchase of equipment;
6. disbursements for research or technical studies;
7. travel;
8. utilities;
9. rental of premises;
10. audits, evaluations and assessments;
11. special needs of persons with disabilities; (accommodations such as a ramp or an ergonomic chair);
12. limited costs related to participant orientation. OJCP projects are not intended to provide training, however a minimal level of orientation may be needed so that the participant can participate effectively in the project. Examples of such types of orientation are: first aid, working with hazardous materials or specialized equipment orientation;
13. bank interest;
14. materials;
15. supplies;
16. insurance.
