The Post-Secondary Student Program through Skills PEI provides employers a wage subsidy reimbursement and supports students working 12-14 weeks during summer and entering or returning to full-time post-secondary studies.


Comments on Funding:

Positions approved for wage assistance will be funded or reimbursed as follows:
1. Non Profit Sector employers will be reimbursed 100% of the approved hourly wage, including vacation pay to a maximum of 40 hours per week, for the total weeks approved. Employer can set the wage rate but must provide a minimum of $14.50/hour and will be funded up to $15.80/hour.
2. Private Sector employers will be reimbursed 50% of the approved hourly wage, including vacation pay to a maximum of 40 hours per week, for the total weeks approved. Employer can set the wage rate but must provide a minimum of $14.50/hour and will be funded up to $15.80/hour
3. Public Sector employers will follow the student wage rates determined by the Province and follow a three-step range depending on the student's year of study. This information will be finalized prior to approval.

Eligibility:

The applicant/employer must:

  • be a registered business;
  • be a non-profit organization;
  • be a government agency;
  • be located in Prince Edward Island;
  • provide a minimum wage rate of $1
  • 50/hr.
Application Steps:

The applicant must complete the online application form.

Documentation Needed:

The employer must submit:
1. the completed application form,
2. his business information, including:
a) Business name and contact details, including a primary and alternate contact person;
b) PEI Corporate Registry number;
c) Business HST number;
d) CRA payroll number;
e) Worker’s Compensation Number;
f) Organization type, i.e., private, non-profit or public;
g) Date of business established;
h) Business activity, i.e., major product or service;
i) Number of employees;
j) Preferred language of service, English or French;
k) Legal signing officers for binding legal agreements and payment claims (name and title);
l) Disclosure of previous provincial and/or federal government agreements;
m) Disclosure of any default amount owing to a government department or agency.
3. the project information, including:
a) Project or activity description;
b) Position title;
c) Job activities/duties; d) Objectives to be achieved;
e) Education and skills required;
f) Duration including start and end date and total weeks;
g) Rate of pay (hourly);
h) Mentorship plan;
i) Supervisor name and contact details; j) Name and contact for person responsible for payroll/timesheet, if different from supervisor;
k) Completed PEI Government payee/ vendor registration form.
