Quebec Fisheries Fund: Science Partnerships

Description:
Quebec Fisheries Fund’s Science Partnership stream is designed to enable the creation of partnerships that:
1. improve knowledge of the impacts of ecosystem shifts on commercial fisheries;
2. support the implementation of sustainable harvesting technologies.
Comments on Funding:
1. Funding takes the form of contributions and the contribution amount is determined based on the recipient’s application and the stacking limits, maximum amount payable, fair market value of the proposed costs, funds available in the program budget, and the evaluation of the project recommended by the Quebec Fisheries Fund Secretariat.
2. The maximum contribution amount payable is $1 million per project under the Science Partnerships component.
3. The maximum annual amount is $500,000.
4. The maximum amount of total public funding (federal, provincial and municipal governments) for the same costs eligible under this program will not exceed the following percentages for:
– non-commercial organizations: 100% of the total eligible costs of the activity;
– commercial recipients with up to 19 employees: 90% of the total eligible costs;
– commercial recipients with 20 to 499 employees: 75% of the total eligible costs;
– commercial recipients with 500 or more employees: 50% of the total eligible costs.
Continuous Intake
Eligibility:
Applicants must:
1. be groups and organizations established in Quebec including:
a) commercial enterprises, such as fishers, aquaculturists and seafood processors;
b) industry associations and other non-profit organizations;
c) research and innovation institutions;
d) academics;
e) post-secondary educational institutions;
f) groups or indigenous organizations that aren’t commercial enterprises.
2. reside in the Province of Quebec;
3. have the legal capacity to enter into a contribution agreement;
4. be active in or support activities related to the fish and seafood harvesting, processing or aquaculture sectors;
5. demonstrate maximum economic benefits accruing to the Province of Quebec.
Eligible activities for science partnerships funding:
1. Research into the impacts of ecosystem changes on fish stocks, distribution and the commercial fishery.
2. Scientific activities to support the implementation of sustainable harvesting technologies.
3. Initiatives that support setting up partnerships or networks for innovation activities in the sector, in accordance with Quebec Fisheries Fund objectives.
Application Steps:
Applicants must
1. provide in paper or electronic format:
a) a completed application;
b) the appropriate proposal;
c) all supporting documents.
2. submit their documents by e-mail:

– FondsPechesQuebec@mapaq.gouv.qc.ca.
3. submit their documents by mail or in person to either their:
– Fisheries and Oceans Canada area office in Quebec Region or
regional directorate for the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Quebec.
