Description:

The Simplified Implementation – Maple Syrup Producer component of the Bioenergies program offers a subsidy to maple syrup producers who wish to replace a maple water evaporator operating with fossil fuel with an evaporator operating with biomass (wood or pellets).

Comments on Funding:

Financial assistance for a project to install a maple water evaporator operating on bioenergy can reach $100,000, without exceeding 75 % of eligible expenses.

For a more precise estimate based on your annual production, complete the financial assistance application form (XLS 1.18 MB) (tab “Application”, section “E. Project”):

Select the appropriate measurement type.
Select the fuel used by the evaporator before conversion.
Indicate the annual production of maple syrup in pounds (lb).

Continuous Intake. No specific deadline was identified.

Eligibility:

To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria :

Be a maple producer located in Quebec;
Carry out your project in a maple grove with a history of fossil fuel consumption and maple syrup production;
Completely dismantle equipment that runs on fossil fuels and is used in the production of maple syrup;
Install a new evaporator that runs on biomass. A used evaporator is not eligible;
Use a biomass-powered evaporator for a period of at least ten years;
Have an annual energy consumption of less than 36,000 GJ .

A support service is available if you need help completing the financial aid application.Send your support request by email, indicating your name and telephone number. A manager will contact you.

Step 1 – Submit your implementation project
To submit your application for financial assistance, you must provide the following information and documents:

The Bioenergy Financial Assistance Application Form – Maple Syrup Producer (XLS 1.18 MB) completed electronically in Excel format (save it before completing it). The completed form must be sent and dated by the authorized signatory. The authorized signatory must be the owner of the site or, in the case of a business, must appear in the Registre des entreprises du Québec (REQ). If this is not the case, you will need to provide a power of attorney;
Document indicating the quota and annual production of maple syrup;
Fuel bills (over 12 months);
Power of attorney (if applicable);
Photos of the evaporator to be replaced;
Land assessment role of the site covered by the application.

Step 2 – Confirmation of your project’s eligibility
If your project is eligible for the program, you will receive by email:

The date of registration of your project;
The date of eligibility of expenses;
The maximum amount of financial assistance that may be granted to you;
The payment request form.
You can then undertake your conversion work, which must be completed within a maximum period of 24 months.

Step 3 – Carrying out the work
You can now begin your conversion work, which must be completed within a maximum period of 24 months.

Invoices dated 30 calendar days or less prior to the date your complete application was received may be accepted. Please check the expense eligibility date that was communicated to you.

Step 4 – Request payment
When the work is completed and your new biomass (wood or pellet) maple water evaporator is in operation, you must provide the following :

Payment request form in PDF format, completed and signed by the authorized signatory;
Invoices relating to the implementation of the measure;
Photo of the new evaporator installed;
Photo of the new evaporator nameplate.
After validation of the documents, the financial aid will be recalculated and the final payment will be confirmed and sent to you.
