Description:

Promote the establishment of a first commercial fishing business by fishermen, including the next generation.

Comments on Funding:

The maximum rate of financial assistance is 90 % of eligible expenses. The maximum amount of financial assistance per applicant for the duration of the program is $ 25,000 .

If the applicant is a new fisherman, the assistance granted may be increased by an additional maximum amount of $ 25,000

Deadline:

The program ends on March 31, 2026, or when the funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.

Eligibility:

Eligible Applicants
Fishing businesses operated by fishermen or new fishermen are eligible.

Eligible projects
Plans to establish a first fishing company.

Eligible expenses
The following expenses are eligible:

Expenditures incurred for the purchase and installation of new equipment for the vessel operated by the eligible fishing business within three years of the acquisition transaction of the first commercial fishing business. All equipment must be installed on a non-permanent basis if the vessel is rented or borrowed;
Expenses relating to the construction and repair of a fishing boat. These expenses are eligible only when the applicant owns the boat;
Registration fees for training related to the operation of a fishing business;
Interest paid by the eligible company on all of its loans taken out when acquiring a first fishing business for a maximum period of three years.
