Description:

The Ministerial Initiative ” Agricultural Succession and Entrepreneurship ” aims to help the next generation of farmers in Quebec start a new business or acquire or take over an existing business by supporting, from a sustainable development perspective, the making of necessary investments:

at the start of its agricultural activities;
to the sustainability of its business by improving profitability or reducing risks.

Comments on Funding:

Financial assistance per applicant covers 50 % of eligible expenses.

It covers 65 % of eligible expenses when the project is located in the Magdalen Islands agglomeration or concerns products that are subject to organic pre-certification or organic certification.

The maximum amount of financial assistance per applicant is set at $ 25,000 .

All amounts paid under the initiative, as well as those already paid under the Ministerial Initiative “ Agricultural Succession and Entrepreneurship ” 2023-2024 and component 1 of the Territories: Succession, Entrepreneurship and Small Businesses program (2018-2022), are cumulative in calculating the maximum amount of financial assistance.

Eligibility:

Be a farm with an annual turnover of less than $ 50,000 or a new agricultural business;

Have at least one manager who meets the following criteria on the date of filing of the application for financial assistance:

Is at least 18 years old and under 40 years old;
Completed one of the training courses identified in Appendix 1 of the Financial Support Program for Young FarmersThis hyperlink will open in a new window.from the Agricultural Financial of Quebec;
Exercises decision-making power in one of the following ways:
If it is a farm registered with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ) for less than 10 years or a new agricultural business:
Holds 20 % or more of the interests, in the case of a sole proprietorship, a corporation, a partnership, a partnership or a limited partnership;
Seat on the board of directors, in the case of a work or solidarity cooperative;
If this is a farm registered with MAPAQ for 10 years or more:
Has held, for less than 10 years, 20 % or more of the interests, in the case of a sole proprietorship, a corporation, a partnership, a partnership or a limited partnership;
Has sat on the board of directors for less than 10 years, in the case of a work or solidarity cooperative;
Be the owner or tenant of the site(s) where the project is being carried out. If the applicant is a tenant, he or she must hold a lease for a minimum period of five years.

Other Things to Note:

To be eligible, the project must meet the following conditions:

Relate to agricultural activities;
Match at least one of the following descriptions:
Construction, extension, adaptation or modernization of an agricultural building;
Underground drainage or leveling of cultivated land;
Cultivation of a new plot;
Starting, improving or expanding a breeding operation by purchasing breeding animals;
Planting of plants considered as fixed assets;
Acquisition or adaptation of materials, equipment or machinery;
Present eligible expenses of at least $5,000 when submitting the financial assistance application.
The project must be completed and have been the subject of a final claim no later than January 31, 2026.
