Tax Credit to Support the Digital Transformation of Print Media Companies

Description:

This tax measure aims to safeguard Quebec’s print media by offering companies an annual tax credit of up to $7 million for the digital transformation of their activities.

Comments on Funding:

Funding takes the form of a refundable tax credit equal to 35% of digital conversion costs incurred after March 27, 2018 and before January 1, 2024.

Eligibility:

Eligible Media – Media that meet the following conditions are eligible:
1. It is produced and distributed daily or periodically ( at least 10 times a year ) in print, Web or mobile format (application reserved for information);
2. It has been produced and distributed for at least 12 months before the filing of the first application ;
3. It publishes original written content of general interest that is aimed at the Quebec population and that covers at least three of the following seven themes : politics, the municipal world, the international situation, culture, business and the economy, local news, miscellaneous facts.
4. The newsroom is located in the company’s establishment located in Quebec and those responsible for the original written information content — reports, portraits or interviews, analyses, columns, investigative reports and editorials — are journalists .
Eligible employees:
– an employee is eligible who holds a full-time job and who devotes at least 75% of his work time to the performance or supervision of eligible digital conversion activities for the eligible corporation, or to the direct support of these activities.

Application Steps:

1. Applicants must complete the media, employee and contract certification requests and send them to Investissement Québe after the end of the fiscal year;
