Description:

The Responsive Advancement for Meat Processing (RAMP) Program provides northern Ontario abattoirs and free-standing meat processing up to $25,000 at 75% cost-share towards the purchase of new technologies, equipment and/or materials that will result in the growth and diversity of the meat sector supply chain within the agri-food sector in the region.

Comments on Funding:

1. Funding is up to $25,000 at 75% cost-share towards the purchase of new technologies, equipment and/or materials.
2. Applicant’s contributions must be at least 25% of total project cost.
3. Successful applicants must pay an administration fee that will be calculated as 1.5% of the awarded grant amount before grant funding is remitted.
4. Projects that would receive other federal or provincial funding need to adhere to stacking limits of those programs and the RAMP Program.
5. A signed contract is required to receive the approved grant. Once the purchase(s) is completed, and all required documentation has been received, the recipient will be granted 95% of the approved funding. Approved applicants may submit ONE claim only per project.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:
1. must be provincially or federally inspected abattoirs and free-standing meat processing plants located in Northern Ontario;
2. must be both start-up and existing businesses;
3. are expected to provide a business plan, if start-up businesses;
4. participate in the program’s initiatives (productivity assessments and management training).

Application Steps:

Applicants must:
1. complete the Responsive Advancement for Meat Processing (RAMP) Program Application form;
2. email the completed RAMP Application form and the supporting documentation to David Thompson – dthompson@ssmic.com.

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must:
1. attach a copy of their Articles of Incorporation.
2. submit a business plan with application form (a business plan template can be made available), if start-ups (in first 2 years of operation);
3. provide proof of registration and license to operate a provincial meat plant for businesses in start-up phase;
4. attach a minimum of three comparative quotes for each piece of equipment or material order (over $10,000).
5. Projects approved under this program must be completed and invoice(s) and proof of payment(s) submitted to SSMIC by December 31, 2023. Once invoices and proof of payments are received in full, a contract will be sent for review and signature.

Other Things to Note:

Funding Applications for 2023 Projects were due by June 30th 2023.
