Description:

The Special Needs Grant supports the inclusion of children with special needs in a licensed early learning and child care setting by providing funding for additional staff.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is a maximum of $14.75 per hour (April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023) plus 12.59% MERCS for each Special Needs Assistant (SNA) employed by the centre and will cover a maximum of 8 hours per day to a maximum of 40 hours per week.
Higher salaries would be the responsibility of the centre.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:
1. be Prince Edward Island licensed child care centres,
2. have children with special needs in their care.

Application Steps:

Application is to be made:
1. by the Supervisor/Operator of the licensed child care centre where the child is registered.
2. to the Manager of Early Learning and Child Care.

Documentation Needed:

Applications includes the submission of:
1. the Agreement Form,
2. Application Outline (items 1 – 4),
3. Table 1 and Table 2,
4. Funding Proposal Form,
5. Centre’s personnel policies.
