Description:

The Nunavut Electricity Subsidy Program (NESP) is designed to provide small commercial enterprises and private residential power consumers, with equitable rates for power consumption.

Comments on Funding:

1. For small commercial enterprises the maximum subsidization will be for the first 1000 kilowatt-hours of monthly power consumption.

2. For residential customers:
a) During the April to September billing cycles, the first 700 kilowatt-hours will be billed at the subsidized rate.
b) For the October to March billing cycles, the first 1,000 kilowatt-hours used each month will be billed at the subsidized rate.
c) Any power consumed in excess of these thresholds will be billed at the full rate that has been set for the community in which the customer resides.

In order to be eligible for this subsidization, small commercial enterprises must:
1. have annual gross revenues of $2.0 million or less for the calendar year in which they are applying;
2. not have recieved other subsidy from the Qulliq Energy Corporation.
For residential customers to be eligible, they must be responsible for paying their own power bills.
