Description:

The Synapse Competition is Ontario’s premier life science pitch competition and is dedicated to fostering the commercialization of innovation in the life science sector. Delivered by Innovation Factory, in collaboration with the Synapse Consortium, this competition assists innovators, scientists and researchers to bring their ideas to market, increase revenues, leverage intellectual property, attract investment and create jobs.

Comments on Funding:

Innovator finalists receive training, mentorship, a $5,000 grant and a chance to pitch and compete for OVER $100,000 cash prizes!.

Deadline:

Eligibility:

Applicants must:
1. be early-stage companies, innovators, scientists or researchers with a life sciences product, service or idea;
2. life science companies looking to grow;
3. have a driven, coachable, and collaborative leadership founder/team;
4. be located in Southern Ontario;
5. be companies who are incorporated in Canada or will have completed incorporation by December 31, 2022;
6. not have been placed in the top 10 at a previous LiONS LAIR, or placed in the top 3 at a previous Synapse Competition;
7. be an upper-year college/university student, Masters-level, Ph.D. student, or a recent graduate, with experience in business, engineering, science, or commercialization and interested in partnering with an innovator to help commercialize their idea.

Application Steps:

Applicants must:
1) complete and submit an online application;
2) certify that any documentation shared in the application process is their own work;
3) certify that they abide by all guidelines of the Forum; and
4) be limited to submitting only one application per participant.
Any submissions received by the Organizers, which are illegible or have not been received through legitimate channels are automatically void.

The competition has 4 phases:
1. Applicants will complete a short application and finalists will be notified in December of their acceptance into the competition. Innovators and students will form teams at our Meet & Greet in January 2023.
2. Teams will submit a 10-15 page Commercialization Plan and a timeline to market in February 2023.
3. Teams will attend training to develop and deliver a 5-minute investor pitch in March 2023.
4. The top-ranked teams will deliver a business pitch, competing for cash and in-kind services on March 22, 2023.

3. deliver an investor pitch.

Other Things to Note:

Applications are closed for the 2024 Synapse Pitch Competition.
