Description:

The Prince Edward Island Universal EV (UEV) Incentive Program is intended to encourage and accelerate clean energy vehicle deployment and technology innovation within Prince Edward Island. The program provides incentives for Islanders who purchase (a new or used) or lease (a new) Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) or a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) from a Licensed Island Dealership.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is an incentive of $5,000 to Islanders who purchase a new or used EV. Government will also offer $2,500 to those who buy a plug-in hybrid from April 1, 2021 onwards. Previously, these incentives included a free level 2 charger but as of March 1, 2023 , Islanders who utilize the PEI Universal EV Incentive (both BEV and PHEV) will instead receive a $750 charging incentive to go towards the purchase and installation of a level 2 charger or towards charging costs for those unable to install a charger.

As of March 1, 2023 the total PEI Electric Vehicle and Charging incentive will be $5,750 for EVs and $3,250 for PHEVs.

Eligibility:

To qualify for an incentive, vehicles must meet the following requirements:
1. For new vehicles – Eligible vehicles must qualify for the Transport Canada iZEV program (Incentive amounts may differ from the federal program.
2. For used vehicles – Vehicles must have a sticker price of $70,000

Application Steps:

No need to apply, incentives will be administered at point-of-sale, applied directly on the bill of sale or lease agreement.

Documentation Needed:

The following documents must be filled out accurately and submitted to Access PEI or uploaded to the UEV Incentive webpage in a timely manner:
1. Proof that each sale / lease of an eligible UEV Incentive Program was made to a PEI resident (or PEI business operating in PEI with a valid business license or to a public agency in PEI);
2. A copy of the sales or lease contract signed by all parties with an itemization of credits,
discounts, and incentives received, if applicable.
3. Copy of PEI drivers license and copy of vehicle registration;
4. An EV Incentive Application signed by the purchaser/lessee and dealership.
