Description:
You can get low-cost funding under the Better Buildings program.
This will help you pay for qualifying energy upgrades to your residential or commercial building.
Property owners must implement one or more eligible energy upgrades in their commercial buildings:
1. air sealing and insulating walls;
2. upgrading or recommissioning heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems;
3. installing a biomass heating system; or
4. installing a cold-climate air-source heat pump.
Comments on Funding:
1. The funding amount is based on 25 per cent of the assessed value of the property, up to a maximum of:
a) $50,000 for residential buildings; or
b) $100,000 for commercial buildings.
2. Property owners will repay the funding annually over a term of up to 15 years. They will make payments by paying the municipal authority or the Government of Yukon a local improvement tax on their property taxes.
3. Interest will be charged on the total funding amount at the Bank of Canada interest rate.
4. Program participants will need to pay a one-time administrative fee of $500.
Continuous Intake
Eligibility:
Applicants must:
1. be property owners who are up to date on payment of property taxes for all their properties.
2. own eligible residential or commercial properties located in the Yukon:
a) properties located in participating municipalities.
b) rural properties located outside of municipal boundaries.
3. reduce their:
a) home’s annual energy consumption by at least 20%; or
b) commercial building’s carbon emissions.
