Housing Initiatives Fund

The Housing Initiatives Fund provides capital grants for new affordable housing across Yukon. It can be used for new rental housing or new home ownership options.
There are 3 program streams:
1. shovel-ready (Whitehorse);
2. shovel-ready (rural); and
3. project concepts.

Comments on Funding:

1. Funding takes the form of grants.
2. Projects in Whitehorse are eligible for up to $100,000 for each unit up to a maximum of $1,000,000.
3. Rural projects are eligible for up to $100,000 for each unit up to a maximum of $1,000,000.
3. Projects concepts are eligible for up to $20,000.
4. Funding for rural private homeowners constructing rental units cannot exceed 50% of the project costs.

Deadline: 1. Continuous Intake for project concept funding applications. 2. February 9, 2024 for the intake for shovel-ready funding applications.

Applicants must be:

  • community housing providers including public or private non-profit housing organizations or rental co-operatives;
  • First Nations governments and development corporations;
  • municipalities;
  • private sector companies and individuals.

    Eligibility criteria for units:
  • Units must be energy efficient.
  • A minimum of 1 or 20 per cent of the units must be accessible.
  • Units designated as affordable must remain affordable for 20 years.

The intake for project concept funding applications is open all year round.
The intake for shovel-ready funding applications is open from November 22, 2023, to February 9, 2024.
