Innovative Renewable Energy Initiative (IREI)

The Yukon Development Corporation is helping to increase the supply of renewable energy and reduce diesel consumption in the Yukon. The Innovative Renewable Energy Initiative provides funding for small-scale, community-led renewable energy projects.

Comments on Funding:

Funding takes the form of grants of 75% of eligible expenses to a maximum of $500,000 per project, whichever is less.

Deadline: Continuous Intake

Applicants must be:

  • Municipal governments;
  • First Nations governments;
  • First Nations development corporations;
  • Community societies or associations;
  • Yukon-based businesses;
  • Working on projects that generate electricity, heat energy or decrease demand on the grid and be based in the Yukon. It must also use proven technology from renewable sources such as:
    a) photovoltaic solar panels;
    b) solar thermal collectors;
    c) wind turbines;
    d) biomass;
    e) gasification; and
    f) run-of-river hydro.

Other Things to Note:

They may give preference to projects that will lower greenhouse gas emissions. Being eligible for and applying to the fund does not guarantee that they'll accept your application.
