Description:
The intent of the On-Farm Efficiency Program (OFEP) is to support producers in achieving environmental benefits by improving the efficient use of agricultural inputs.
Under this program, Eligible Items are organized into the following Streams:
–Smart Farm Technology
–Energy Efficiency
–Farm Security
–Efficient Grain Handling
Comments on Funding:
The overall program funding maximum per applicant is $150,000 over the duration of the program term (2024-2028).
The minimum funding per application is $500. The maximum funding per Stream over the duration of the program is: $50,000 for Smart Farm Technology, $50,000 for Energy Efficiency, $2,000 for Farm Security, and $100,000 for Efficient Grain Handling. Eligible expenses will be cost-shared at 50% grant and 50% applicant, except insulation, which is funded per square footage as stated in the Funding List.
Applications are closed. Applications will open again on April 1, 2025.
Eligibility:
Applicants must be:
1. Primary producer that is:
a. responsible for the day-to-day management of an agricultural operation (such as an annual crop, bee, or livestock operation) in Alberta that produces at least $25,000 worth of farm commodities annually.
b. responsible for input costs for that operation
c. not a landlord whose only interest in the operation is ownership
2. Approved Indigenous applicants (First Nation, Métis Nation, Inuit).
3. Have a current EFP certificate or letter of completion or must be able to receive an EFP certificate or letter to submit with their final report.
Application Steps:
Applicants must:
1. Determine whether you are eligible by reviewing the OFEP Terms and Conditions.
2. Confirm that the proposed purchases are eligible. Eligible items are listed in OFEP Funding List.
3. Complete the application form.
4. Submit the completed application forms and supporting documents by email or mail.

Documentation Needed:
Applicants must submit:
1. Completed Application Form in active fillable PDF format
2. Signature page with a handwritten signature (scan and attach separately from the rest of the application).
3. A scanned quotes for every Eligible Item being applied for with a detailed breakdown of every component and its associated cost. Costs provided must not include GST or labour.
4. An approved Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) or submit one with your final report. Note that an EFP must have been completed within 10 years of the application date or it is not considered valid.
