Custom incentives5

Custom incentives are available for unique, site-specific projects involving equipment not covered by our prescriptive incentives. They are ideal for complex projects, projects involving multiple pieces of equipment and a wide range of retrofit opportunities. Examples include heat recovery, boiler control improvements, ventilation upgrades and building automation systems (BAS).

Get up to $2.50/m3 of natural gas saved, up to 85% of eligible upgrade costs6.

Free in-suite upgrades

If your building was built in 1980 or earlier and is heated by hot water radiators or convectors, you may be losing significant heat through exterior walls. Heat reflector panels attach quickly to the wall behind radiators and convectors, reflecting heat back into the room.

  1. Eligible buildings can receive heat reflector panels installed at no charge, helping improve resident comfort.

Incentives are calculated at $2.50/m3 of natural gas saved, up to 85% of eligible energy-efficiency upgrade costs, to a maximum of $200,000 per project.

Examples of common custom and retrofit upgrades

Building automation systems

Add building controls to match heating with demand, reduce energy use, and increase occupant comfort.

Heat recovery

Put wasted heat generated from equipment to work.

Ventilation equipment and control upgrades

Install high-efficiency equipment, such as a condensing make-up air unit, and/or add occupancy-based controls or variable frequency drives to lower operating costs while ensuring adequate ventilation.

Steam & hot water systems

Achieve savings through steam trap replacements, condensate returns and more.

Air balance

Get help to right-size exhaust and make-up air requirements in your building.

Types of retrofit projects

Reduce losses

  1. Insulate hot surfaces.
  2. Reduce process exhaust.
  3. Reduce blowdown.

Recover heat

  1. Add condensing economizers on boilers.
  2. Use air compressor waste heat.

Upgrade

  1. Upgrade to high-efficiency equipment.

Upgrade costs refer to the difference between the equipment and implementation costs of the energy-efficient option and those of the alternate option considered.
