Commercial buildings in Ottawa and Toronto can receive direct installation and instant discounts on energy-saving equipment upgrades for lasting benefits.

The Save on Energy BizEnergySaver program is designed to help industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI), and multi-residential building owners and operators make equipment improvements to reduce their energy consumption.

Who can apply

  1. Participants must be non-residential customers of Toronto Hydro, Hydro Ottawa, or Hydro One
  2. Participants must have the rights and authority to have the equipment installed (i.e., either own the facility or have the owner’s permission)
  3. Buildings located in the following areas and with the first three digits noted in the facility’s postal code are eligible:

You are eligible if you either own the building or have the owner’s permission to have the equipment installed; the building is an industrial, commercial, institutional, or multi-unit residential building; and the first three digits of the building’s postal code must be one of the following:

What discounts are available?

The list of eligible measures and their corresponding instant discount amounts are provided in the Program Requirements. The program also offers a free assessment to identify energy-efficiency opportunities and installation of agreed-upon measures. The instant discount amounts are such that most VFD upgrades are now free*.

*There may be some costs that are not covered by the BizEnergySaver Program (e.g., additional wiring, by-pass for VFD, certain TSSA costs, etc.)

Is there a cost to participate?

There is no cost to receive an assessment. After the assessment, you will receive a report of the recommended upgrades, their costs, the instant discount amounts, and the remaining amount payable to have the equipment installed under the program.

However, there may be some costs associated with the upgrade that would not be covered by the BizEnergySaver Program, such as additional wiring, by-pass for VFD, certain TSSA costs, among others.

What energy-efficient equipment upgrades are available as part of the BizEnergySaver program?

Eligible measures include:

  1. Upgrades to common area lighting systems to LEDs with integral occupancy sensors
  2. High/low bay fixture upgrades to LEDs with integral occupancy sensors
  3. Variable frequency drives (VFDs) for system pumps and domestic cold water booster pumps
  4. VFDs for fans
  5. Carbon monoxide sensors and controls for parking garage exhaust fans
  6. The detailed list of eligible measures are provided in the Program Requirements.
