Export Trade Assistance
Export Trade Assistance provides support to Prince Edward Island exporting businesses to explore new global opportunities. Support may be available to participate in Innovation PEI’s Global Trade Services coordinated trade activities, focused on international and domestic exporting, or to bring buyers and business partners to Prince Edward Island to strengthen business relationships or close sales.

Up to 60% of pre-determined eligible costs for approved Global Trade Services trade activities; up to 75% of pre-determined eligible costs, to a maximum Innovation PEI contribution of $3,000, for incoming buyers; combined non-repayable government funding cannot exceed 75 per cent of eligible costs

Who can apply
To be an eligible applicant, a business must be located in Prince Edward Island and:
- be registered to conduct business, and actively operating, in Prince Edward Island; and
- be an active exporter OR export-ready business.
Not eligible:
Ineligible applicants include
a business that has a defaulted outstanding debt obligation on file in the Province’s Central Default Registry
New project submissions from an applicant in default on any reporting, project completion or financial obligation to Innovation PEI will not be reviewed until a resolution to the default is reached
About the funding
Travel Related Activity
- Up to 60% of pre-determined eligible costs for participation in approved Innovation PEI Global Trade Services coordinated trade activities, including outbound trade missions and trade shows.
Incoming Buyers Assistance
- Up to 75% of pre-determined eligible costs, to a maximum Innovation PEI contribution of $3,000, to bring a qualified buyer/partner to the province for a facility visit or familiarization tour.

Innovation PEI reserves the right to limit such activities to two annually, per business.
The combined project funding per application from all non-repayable government sources cannot exceed 75 per cent of eligible costs.
- The Grant shall be disbursed once the Business has:
- submitted the completed Export Trade Assistance – Post Mission Survey within five (5) business days after completion of the Project activities, and
- submitted a complete Request for Payment to Innovation PEI and provided any additional information requested by Innovation PEI to confirm the Business has complied with these Terms and Conditions.
- The Grant will be paid using direct deposit, provided that the Business provides complete and accurate business banking information by providing a sample, void cheque or equivalent document generated by its bank (available through online banking).
- Innovation PEI may decline to contribute to any cost incurred prior to the Project Start Date or after the Project End Date, as identified within the Grant Approval Notification.
- The Business must submit the final Request for Payment to Innovation PEI within 60 days after the Project End Date. If the complete Request for Payment is not received by Innovation PEI by this date, the Business will be deemed to have declined the Grant and will have no future claim to payment of the Grant.
An eligible business may access support for eligible costs related to activities completed before April 1, 2027:
Eligible costs include economy travel, accommodation, and meals per diem (limited to 2 representatives per business).
Eligible expenses may include economy travel, accommodation, and meal per diem (limited 2 buyers per business per visit).
“Eligible Project Costs” means those reasonable and proper costs identified on the Business’s Application which have been accepted by Innovation PEI and are deemed eligible expenditures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Costs must be related to purchases from a third-party, unaffiliated, arms-length vendor.
